Wow time fly's!

Wow how time fly's and how easy it is to neglect a project like building an RV-10.

Just a short update to let folks know that I am not dead, am not sick that I am aware of, and no, the project is not being abandoned although it may look like it :)

The reality is other things have taken priority over the build and since this is a looooonnnng term project for me, I have to be OK with letting it sit for long periods while I take care of other stuff.

Right now my priority has to be getting re-focused on my fitness and weight management.  I am slowly creeping back up on the scale and that is not good!  I cannot allow my weight to get too far ahead of me again!

That being said, I must spend more time exercising and focusing on my health.  This will slow the progress of the build because exercising takes a ton of time to do effectively!

No RV10 work last week. I was on Vacation!

Last week, my wife and I flew to Miami and then a Lyft over to Port Everglades and boarded the Carnival Magic for a 6 day cruise to Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, and Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic.

It was a great week of being off the grid and relaxing!

I will never get this airplane built at this rate :)

Oh well!  No need for me to be in a hurry! That fuse kit cost a bundle!

We blast off to Osh tomorrow morning.  No airplane building until we return all recharged with tons of vitamin RV!

Still waiting on wings!

So I really got behind the kit lead time curve on this one....

Van's lead times seem to be higher than what I am used to and they missed their estimate a bit.  Also the freight company is taking their sweet time getting the kit to me.

Hopefully I will get my wing kit tomorrow.

Wing kit was suppose to be crated last week and I had hoped to be shipped by week end.  Still has not shipped as of today.  Best advice is order early as you can.  The lead times seem to be long right now!

Just waiting on the wing kit to arrive.

I made the final payment today and crating is scheduled for the 6/17/19.

I have a couple more things I can do to the tail kit but I am dragging my feet.  Vacation next week so no progress will happen till after.

I did forget to post these pics of me drilling the elevator horns:

 Temp installed the left elevator.  Sanded down the drill bushing and put it in the center bearing.

 Used it to drill the left elevator horn.

 Switched sides and drilled the right elevator horn.

 Then I upsized the hole to almost 1/4" and then final reamed the hole to exactly 1/4" on both sides.

 Deburred the holes.

Deburred the other side.

More EFIS to HUD project work

Looks like we will be having a forum at Osh this year and possibly enter for the Founder's Innovation Prize.

This screen is modeled after an F18 HUD and includes a caged and uncaged version of the flight path marker.

This is a side project I am working on.  An open source HUD/Remote display powered by a $40 Raspberry Pi mini computer.  It uses the serial stream from an EFIS to provide the data.   I have been working on the display layout, creating the HSI, wind direction and AOA indicators, and created the data input module for the Garmin G3X serial stream.  After this video was made, I also added a turn/slip indicator at the bottom.

I am back to work on the tailcone.  I can't blame it all on sickness, I have been lazy and needed a bit of a break from the kit for a while.  Seems the second time around building, one realizes there is more to life than just building.  Breaks in the build will happen!

 Tonight I got started by clamping the right side longerons to the tailcone assembly.

 Then I drilled every other hole and cleco'ed em.  I moved around totally randomly so no twist was induced.

Then I went back and drilled the holes between the cleco's.
